Balanced Government; Balanced Health Care
March 24th, 2009 | by caprice |The founding fathers of the United States set up a system of govenment that has three branches to provide for a balance of power. When consumers drive any market, there is a natural balance of power, i.e., the consumer can veto any service or purchase by taking their business elsewhere. When a government is the payer, legislative oversight branch, and the provider, this leads to problems.
Reform discussions in Washington, D.C., are moving at the speed of lighting. Everyday, their is more movement towards the consolidation of power regarding the American health care system. Although the end-game of helping more people obtain health care services, the process needs to be carefully thought out. Perhaps this is a good time to remind ourselves about the slippery slope of complete government intervention in everyday health care provision.
